A social media influencer and college student from Dehradun was killed in an accident Wednesday morning on the Yamuna Expressway while riding a bike in what is suspected to be an attempt to touch the 300 kmph mark.
The influencer, identified as Agastay Chauhan, was riding his bike along with a friend on the expressway when the accident took place around 9.45 am under Tappal police station area of Aligarh. He was riding a Kawasaki Ninja ZX10R – a 1,000 cc superbike – and making a video for his YouTube channel ‘Pro Rider 1000’ with 1.28 million subscribers.
Aligarh SP (Rural) Palash Bansal said that there were initially five bikers, including Agastay, who left Delhi on five bikes to ride on the Yamuna Expressway and make videos. After crossing the Jewar toll plaza on the Noida-Aligarh border, three of them returned towards Delhi, while Agastay and his friend Jammu & Kashmir resident Aamir Majid, continued towards Mathura.
“On the road, Aamir was ahead of Agastay when the latter probably lost control and met with an accident. There is around 600-700 metre-long skid mark, suggesting that he lost control. Upon checking their previous YouTube videos, we found that they were attempting to touch the 300 kmph mark. Agastay had a serious head injury and the doctors conducting the postmortem said that it was probably caused by direct impact with the divider. Based on what we saw, it could also be possible that some moving vehicle ran over him after he fell on the road,” said Bansal.
In the last video uploaded Tuesday on his Youtube account, Agastay was riding his superbike from Dehradun to Delhi with a target to touch the 300 kmph mark. The bike, as shown in the video, reached 279 kmph at one point.
The official said that the helmet he was wearing is completely broken and though the body has minor cut marks with clothes torn, the death was caused due to the head injury. The expressway has a speed limit of 100 kmph but vehicles go up to 120 kmph.
“I have talked to his father and they said that they will conduct the final rites in Haridwar and after that, they will get an accidental death case registered. However, they have also shown some doubts. They said there was a camera on the helmet which is missing. But we think the camera could have broken away from the helmet after the accident. They also suspect Aamir’s involvement as both of them had YouTube channels and had a rivalry related to the number of followers,” said the official.
While Agastay has 1.28 million subscribers on YouTube, Aamir has 2.51 million subscribers. Agastay’s Instagram handle has 2.07 lakh followers.
Since his demise, his followers on YouTube and Instagram have posted several comments on his social media profiles. The followers also prayed others to not ride a motorcycle at such a high speed.
Former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat expressed his grief on the demise of Agastay and said that the state and the country lost a great talent. “Deeply saddened to hear the news of the demise of arms wrestler and YouTuber Agastay Chauhan in a road accident. Uttarakhand and the country lost a son and a great talent. In this time of sorrow whole of Uttarakhand stands with the Chauhan family. I convey my feelings to the bereaved family. Lord, place the dead soul at your feet. Give and give strength to his family members to bear this unbearable sorrow,” he said in a Facebook post.
