OpenAI to Add Parental Controls to ChatGPT After Teen’s Death

OpenAI has announced that it will add parental controls to ChatGPT after reports linked the chatbot to the death of a U.S. teenager.

The new feature will let parents link their account with their teen’s account and decide how ChatGPT should respond. Parents will also be able to set age-appropriate rules for the chatbot’s behavior.

OpenAI said the update will be available within the next month. In a blog post, the company explained: “We continue to improve how our models recognize and respond to signs of mental and emotional distress.”

This move comes as more parents and regulators raise concerns about how AI tools affect children and teens. With parental controls, OpenAI hopes to make ChatGPT safer and more supportive for young users.
