School Van Overturns on Railway Track in Cuddalore, Nine Students Injured

Cuddalore: In a shocking incident, nine students sustained injuries after a private school van overturned on a railway track at the Poovanur level crossing near Vriddhachalam on Monday, August 25, 2025.

According to police sources, the private van was transporting students to a school in Vriddhachalam. The driver, identified as C. Sekar (45), of Puduvilankulam, reportedly lost control of the vehicle when it approached the level crossing. The van rammed into a roadside pole, causing it to overturn on the railway track.

Local residents and passersby rushed to the spot and rescued the students before the arrival of emergency services. All nine injured students were immediately taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances that led to the accident. Officials said further action would be taken against the driver after a detailed inquiry.

Authorities also urged schools and transport operators to ensure strict adherence to road safety norms, highlighting the need for well-trained drivers and proper vehicle maintenance to prevent such accidents.
