Arakkonam Inspector Suspended After Mishandling Case Leads to Murder
Arakkonam Town Inspector suspended over mishandling a case linked to youth’s murder.

RANIPET: Arakkonam Town Police Inspector Thangagurunathan has been suspended for mishandling an attempt-to-murder case that resulted in the killing of a youth near Rathinagiri police station. The suspension was ordered by the DIG of Vellore Range. Meanwhile, the Inspector of Arakkonam Taluk Police Station will hold additional charge of the Town station until further notice.

The case involved Sudhakar, husband of DMK councillor Ashwini from Ammanur in Arakkonam. According to the Arakkonam DSP, “The inspector failed to investigate the case properly, despite indications that Sudhakar planned to kill Avinesh.”

Avinesh was attacked on August 10 while on his way to sign at Rathinagiri police station as part of his bail conditions. Police arrested nine people in connection with the murder, including councillor Ashwini, Sudhakar, and others who allegedly supplied weapons or participated in the attack. All were remanded to Vellore Central Prison.

Reports revealed that Avinesh had earlier attempted to kill Sudhakar in April, leaving him severely injured. He had been arrested under Section 109 of the IPC and was released on bail with daily reporting conditions at the Rathinagiri station.

The fatal attack occurred around 9.30 am, just 200 meters from the station. A group of five men assaulted Avinesh and later surrendered to the police. He was admitted to Vellore Government Hospital, Adukkamparai, where he succumbed to his injuries.
