Audi Italy Chief Fabrizio Longo Dies in Tragic 10,000-Foot Fall

Fabrizio Longo, the 62-year-old head of Audi Italy, tragically died after falling from a height of 10,000 feet while climbing Cima Payer in the Adamello mountains near the Italian-Swiss border. Longo, an experienced mountaineer, was nearing the summit when the accident occurred. Despite being equipped with safety aids such as steel cables and ladders, he fell and was found 700 feet down a gorge by rescue teams.

Born in Rimini, Italy, in 1962, Longo graduated with a degree in political science before beginning his career at Fiat in 1987. He moved to Lancia in 2002 and joined Audi in 2012, where he became director of Italian operations in 2013. Under his leadership, Audi Italy achieved significant success, maintaining its position as a leader in the premium segment for 11 consecutive years.

Longo was also a dedicated environmental advocate, strongly supporting efforts to protect the Adamello mountains from the effects of climate change. His passion for both his profession and outdoor activities was evident in his work and personal life.

The automotive and mountaineering communities have expressed deep sorrow at Longo’s passing. An Audi spokesperson praised his leadership and dedication, highlighting his positive impact on the company and its stakeholders. The International Ski and Snowboard Federation also released a statement mourning his death, describing it as a significant loss for the federation.
