Rahul Gandhi Discusses AI’s Impact on Jobs at Texas Event
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi addressed concerns about Artificial Intelligence (AI) during a talk at the University of Texas at Dallas on Monday. He emphasized that AI could be a valuable opportunity if individuals and industries adapt correctly.
Gandhi acknowledged the common fear that new technologies, including AI, will eliminate jobs. He cited past technological advancements like computers, calculators, and ATMs, which initially caused job concerns but eventually led to new job creation and opportunities.
“The argument that technology will take jobs away is not new,” Gandhi explained. “When computers and ATMs were introduced, there were fears of job losses. However, these technologies eventually led to new types of jobs and opportunities.”
He further elaborated on the specific impact of AI on different sectors. “The IT industry in India might face significant challenges due to AI, but sectors like scooter manufacturing might not be as affected,” he noted. “AI will shift some jobs and create new ones. Being well-positioned can turn this shift into an opportunity.”
Gandhi reflected on past skepticism about technology and its impact on India, recalling how former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee once said that Indians did not need computers or English. Despite such doubts, technology like computers ultimately created millions of jobs in India.
He urged for flexibility and forward-thinking in adapting to technological changes, stating that how well one adapts to AI will determine the success or struggle faced in the job market.
Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Dallas marks the beginning of his three-day trip to the US, where he is engaging with the Indian diaspora and discussing important issues related to technology and innovation.
His remarks highlight the evolving nature of work in the era of AI and underscore the importance of strategic positioning and adaptability in leveraging technological advancements for future success.
