TN Govt to Launch 1,000 Farmer Service Centres to Empower Agri Graduates
In a pioneering move to strengthen the agriculture sector and empower unemployed agriculture graduates, the Tamil Nadu government is set to establish 1,000 CM’s Farmers’ Welfare Service Centres across the state. The scheme, spearheaded by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, is the first of its kind in the country and comes with an overall investment of Rs 42 crore.
These centres will act as one-stop hubs for farmers, providing essential agricultural inputs such as quality seeds, fertilisers, and farm machinery on a custom-hiring basis. Farmers will also receive expert advice on crop management, pest and disease control, soil health, water management, and modern farming techniques.
The initiative goes beyond input supply, offering guidance on value addition, processing, and marketing of farm produce, along with access to modern agricultural technologies. Farmers can also register for crop insurance schemes and avail services such as crop loan advisory, cattle feed support, and the use of drones for pesticide spraying.
Each centre will be established at a cost of Rs 10–20 lakh, with the state government offering a 30% subsidy ranging from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 6 lakh. Beneficiaries will be provided the necessary licences through the agriculture department, ensuring these centres operate as authorised service outlets. Training support will also be extended through district farmers’ training centres and Krishi Vigyan Kendras.
This initiative is expected to create new employment opportunities for agriculture graduates while ensuring farmers gain access to modern solutions that boost productivity and profitability.
