Madras HC Judges to Inspect Coimbatore Forests for Elephant Conflict Prevention
Madras High Court judges to inspect Coimbatore forests for proposed elephant conflict prevention fencing.

In a proactive move to address Human-Elephant Conflict (HEC) concerns, two judges of the Madras High Court will conduct a field inspection of forested areas in Coimbatore district. Justices N. Sathish Kumar and D. Bharatha Chakravarthy are scheduled to personally review a 10-kilometre stretch at Thondamuthur, where the Tamil Nadu government has proposed installing steel wire rope fencing to prevent elephant intrusions into human settlements.

The inspection, set for September 5 and 6, 2025, will also include other regions in Mettupalayam known for elephant movement. The judges will be accompanied by amici curiae T. Mohan, Chevanan Mohan, Rahul Balaji, and M. Santhanaraman, as well as the Special Government Pleader. This initiative reflects the judiciary’s commitment to balancing wildlife conservation with community safety and mitigating human-animal conflicts effectively.
