Tamil Nadu CM Honors Artisans and Inaugurates New College Buildings
Chief Minister MK Stalin recently celebrated the contributions of artisans in Tamil Nadu by presenting lifetime achievement awards to eight individuals and Poompuhar awards to 10 others at the state secretariat in Chennai. These awards recognized the exceptional dedication and craftsmanship displayed by artisans across various districts.
The recipients of the lifetime achievement awards included N Balakrishnan from Kanchipuram, S Govindaraj and K P Umapathy from Thanjavur, S Rajagopal and Sulaikal Beevi from Tirunelveli, N Mani from Thiruvannamalai, and C Muthuswami and S Thanga Jothi from Kanniyakumari. Meanwhile, the Poompuhar awardees were C Ravi, C Nagalakshmi, R Loganathan, and M Murugesan from Thanjavur, M Rajappa from Pudukkottai, N Poovammal and S Lilly Mary from Kanniyakumari, P Varadhan and M Rajarathinam from Chengalpattu, and R Sakthivel from Kallakuruchi.
In addition to honoring artisans, CM Stalin inaugurated new buildings for government arts and science colleges, as well as polytechnic colleges, across Pudukkottai, Tiruchy, Namakkal districts, and the Government Polytechnic College for Women in Coimbatore. These new facilities represent an investment of Rs 52.75 crore, aimed at enhancing educational infrastructure and promoting learning opportunities across the state.
The event underscored Tamil Nadu’s commitment to recognizing and supporting its rich cultural heritage while investing in the future through improved educational facilities.
